Reducing Cart Abandonment Without Hiding Important Costs
Checkout friction can cause customers to abandon a cart, but removing useful information is not a sustainable conversion strategy. Customers need confidence about the total cost, delivery, and payment process before they commit.
Show shipping fees, taxes, delivery estimates, and required account steps as early as practical. Keep form fields proportionate to the order and make validation messages specific. Support common payment methods that are appropriate for the market, and explain what happens after payment confirmation.
Measure the funnel step by step: product view, add to cart, checkout start, payment attempt, and completed order. Segment results by device and acquisition source, but protect customer privacy and avoid collecting sensitive payment details in analytics. Test one change at a time where possible so the effect is interpretable.
A lower abandonment rate is not the only success measure. Track payment failure, refunds, support contacts, and repeat purchases too. A design that increases short-term conversion by hiding fees can create complaints and cancellations later.

Make the delivery promise realistic. A clear estimate is better than a fast estimate that operations cannot consistently meet.
